Letterkenny U13 0s v Inishowen U13s 71
Would Ye Come Back! We need you!
A seriously depleted U13 team bravely took to the pitch this morning at the Glebe, against the visitors from Inishowen. Despite dire forecasts of snow and freezing conditions the morning turned out bright and crisp. The last Saturday of the term, and there was a kit sale, sausages sizzling, and a general party atmosphere as Letterkenny minis played host to Derry RFC and the Youths to Inishowen.
The party atmosphere did not unfortunately extend to the playing field where Letterkenny found themselves quickly on the back foot when John O’ Neill crossed the line after only three minutes for the first of three first half tries. From the kick off Letterkenny tried valiantly but missing a couple of key players found themselves overwhelmed in the rucks and mauls. Despite brave tackling, tries followed from Aidan Donaghy, Tom Clare and Roy (?) just before the break. At one point the party did spill onto the pitch when a curious sheep trotted across to see what all the fuss was about.
Half-time found the gang wondering how to turn, or at least stem the tide. No magic solution was found however, and the well-practised and fluid play by the visiting team delivered another series of tries. John O’ Neill again scored three times, and Tom Clare twice. Conal Doherty and Ben Lafferty also added their names to the score sheet. No consolation for Letterkenny, despite determined efforts. Ben Russell, Aron, David and Conor in particular showed commendable spirit right to the final whistle.
Just not our day, well played Inishowen! Final Score: Letterkenny 0 Inishowen 71 FR
