Ladies v Carrick (A)
Sunday, 07 February 2010
WIN For Letterkenny Ladies V Carrickfergus.

Letterkenny ladies continued their season on Sunday last with a comprehensive victory over Carrickfergus in Belfast on a score line of 22-5.
The Letterkenny girls started the game very brightly and straight after the kick off attacked and put Carrick under serious pressure. After a number of phases, the play was spread by scrum half Kerri-lee Murray, to Laura Kenny who rounded three defenders to score in the corner for 5-0. The conversion was missed.
Letterkenny kept the pressure on, with a quick break from Amy Coll, who raced down the pitch just to be stopped before the 22yard line. Support quickly arrived to secure the ruck and the ball was passed through the hands of Grainne kennedy, Laura feely, Carmel Egan, Clodagh Llewhellin and onto left winger Alison Studdart, who again was stopped with only 5metres to go. The ladies were even more determined to add this score and were rewarded with a well deserved try, this time from Vistorja Vasileuska, who charged through numerous attempted tackles and went under the posts for a 10-0 lead. The added conversion made it 12-0. At this point Letterkenny took their foot of the gas and began to let Carrick get a stronger foothold in the game but the half time whistle came just at the right time for Letterkenny. Score at the interval 12-0 Letterkenny.

The second half started much the same as the first ended with Carrick applying the early pressure.
Carricks organisation at the ruck situation was causing the Letterkenny Ladies problems which resulted in a lot of turnovers. Ten minutes into the second half Carrick got themselves back into the game with a try to close the score to 12-5. This was a wakeup call for Letterkenny and almost straight from the kick off Laura Kenny split the Carrick defence with a fifty yard run to cross for her teams third try and leave the score 17-5 with the missed conversion.

This was a killer blow for Carrick as they seemed to give up the fight after that setback. Letterkenny took advantage, with Fullback Carmel Egan outsprinting and sidestepping several carrick ladies. The ruck was then well secured to allow Letterkenny to score a fourth try, through a sneaky switch pass from Laura Feely to Clodagh Llewhellin to leave the final score 22-5.

This was a very strong and assured performance by the Letterkenny Ladies but still many things to
improve on. They now play City of Derry in the final on the 21st of February. Please come and support
the Ladies in what is the first ever ladies semi-final for the club.
